Cassex Movie Review: A Sexy and Trippy Delve into Softcore Porn (sort of)

There’s a video version of this review on my YouTube channel.

Full Moon Features is best known for its massive library of over the top C+ horror movies, which includes the likes of Puppet Master, Subspecies, and one of my new favorites, Trophy Heads, which I also reviewed on the YouTube channel. What I recently learned is that the studio also specializes in family friendly movies as well as pseudo soft porn. Hooray for creative diversity, right?

Cassex Movie Review

One night last weekend, I got tired of watching crappy horror movies, so I figured I branch out and try something different. I ultimately settled on an 18+ flick called Cassex. I went in with zero expectations, yet came out sorta kinda impressed. Well, that might be a stretch, but here we are.

Right out of the gate, I must give this movie props for having a fleshed out plot. Well, it’s not the greatest storyline by any means, but when compared to other titles you’re liable to find in this genre, it’s more than serviceable.

What we have here is a young couple that miraculously digs up a video camera and VHS tape on the property of their new desert home. They pop in the tape and discover a weird retro porno flick featuring 80’s adult film starlette Cassandra Essex. The story on Ms. Essex is that she virtually disappeared from not only the porn industry, but life in general as no one has heard from her since her heyday.

After sampling the flick, things start to get weird. The wife, Maya, starts seeing glitchy visions from the movie while she’s taking a shower, which she initially writes off as trippy delusions before going downstairs to entertain her friend, Doreen, who stops by for a visit.

We quickly suspect that there might be something screwy up with bestfriend and hubby, Ian ― — something that makes Maya very uncomfortable. Our suspicions are confirmed when those two freaks unlock the door that finds them trapped in Cassandra’s erotic realm ― — a plane that exists somewhere between time and space.

Meanwhile, Maya is on a mission to crack the code that will help her to better understand this mystical world and rescue her incapacitated husband before he’s lost for all of eternity.

Porn Stars Act, Too …

Jazmin Luv and some dude

The big draw to Cassex is the cast, which is primarily made up of porn stars. Despite their lack of mainstream acting chops, I thought they did fairly well with the script ― — when they weren’t hamming it up with the comedic elements, of course. I particularly appreciated the dynamic between Ian and Doreen. I’m a harsh critic when it comes to dialog, but I thought their conversation flowed in a very fluid and genuine way.

Maya, for me, was the star of this flick. A near flawless physical specimen with a perfectly scrumptuous little booty that I wish we saw more of. Though, if I’m being honest, we ended up seeing quite a bit over the length of the whole movie.

Lexi Luna and her forehead

I should’ve probably reserved that desire to see more to Cassandra, played by MILF porn star Lexi Luna. There’s a brief thong bikini scene that threw me for a loop because I wasn’t expecting her to have such an incredibly phat ass. Shit was damn impressive.

Jazmin Luv is on the petite side, a tad skinnier than I like ’em, but she’s still very sexy. Plus thin chicks can still make great smut, so she has that going for her. Boy does she ever have that going for her …

Nitpicking and Stuff

I hesitate to classify this as soft porn. While there is some nudity, there isn’t much simulated sex. No full frontal nudity. That said, I thought it was effective for what it was, and for the most part, it was hot. From me, that’s saying a mouthful. I would’ve ate this shit up as a yout. I mean, I used to surf for scramble porn back in the days. SMH. Nowadays, I’m usually buttholes and blowjobs or bust. As such, plots in porn does nothing for me.

Cassex has a lot going for it, but this skin flick is not without its flaws. My biggest issue lies in how they handled the infidelity issue. Maya spent most of the movie in her feelings about how she got played. Yet by the end, they seemed to settle for happily fucking after, everybody gets laid, etc. etc. I reckon that’s what you’d expect from this sort of flick, hardcore porn or otherwise.

Maybe I’m conflicted by my own personal feelings on the matter. I have seen countless women allow themselves to be fucked over by serial cheaters. Only to take the same men back like something will be different the next time around. I guess Cassex sort of mirrors real life on that note.

Going Back for More

Overall, I thought this flick was pretty cool. So when I overdose on crappy horror movies, I might seek out something similar, hoping it keeps me engaged enough to not only pay attention, but inspire me to ‘research’ the cast afterwards. Giggity Giggity Goo!

In the meantime, if these kinda flicks are your thing, I highly recommend checking out Cassex. It might do something for ya. Peace!
