5 Good Ways to Use Kratom

Finally got your hands on some kratom. Exciting, huh? After all, you’ve heard many a good thing. Or maybe you’re a little nervous, because you’re still not quite sure how to even use the stuff.

Don’t worry. Your boy. Your buddy. Your ole pal, has got ya covered.

5. Brew a Kratom Tea

Kratom tea is always a great place to start. This is actually where I started — and failed miserably in the process. But I’m a resilient SoB and eventually figured it out. The goal is to simply agitate and extract the alkaloids using scalding hot water as your solvent. Don’t worry about heat destroying the alkaloids. That’s crazy talk.

Many kratomites swear by kratom tea and when examining the benefits, it’s easy to see why.

Pros

  • It’s simple. If you can follow a basic set of instructions or just understand the simple premise of herbal tea, then you can make kratom tea.
  • It’s efficient. A good recipe and better brewing techniques will allow you to get a lot of mileage out of kratom tea.

Cons

  • It’s not exactly tasty. Drizzle in all the honey and sugar you want, kratom tea is very likely to challenge your taste buds. (it’s yummy to me!)
  • It’s not foolproof. While kratom tea is generally simple to make, it also seems to be the most hit or miss of all dosing methods and thus, may take some practice.

4. Make Some Kratom Drink

Most people say that kratom tastes awful. I’m not one of those people, but whateves. To make the taste more palatable, many kratomites resort to mixing their powder into a drink of some sort. Orange juice. Grapefruit juice. It’s all gravy. Get creative and you might be able to come up with something that hits the spot and doesn’t taste half bad.

Pros

  • It works fast. Whether it’s a blended smoothie or another concoction, mixing the herb in a drink means you can absorb the goodies directly, which results in a relatively faster onset that typically packs a stronger punch than tea.
  • It tastes better. With the right combination of ingredients, this method is pretty effective at masking the earthy taste many people have a hard time swallowing.

Cons

  • It’s tricky (tricky). Finding the right dose can be tough with this method. Failing to optimally proportion your liquid with your powder could result in a case of too little, or too much, as far as results goes.
  • It’s gritty. No matter how hot or how wet it gets (giggity), kratom powder will not fully dissolve. This can make for some horrifically gritty kratom drink.

3. Put it in Capsules

Capsules offer a simple and straightforward way to use kratom. Since your stomach needs to break down the gel cap material, on top of the powder, the onset tends to be a bit slower than other methods. That said, it works!

Pros

  • It’s convenient. An easy peasy alternative to swallowing gritty, dry ass powder.
  • It’s balanced. Capsules generally deliver a smoother, less overwhelming impact that tones down the punch of more potent strains.

Cons

  • It’s less effective. Excess processing of gel caps in the gut not only lengthens the onset, it seems to reduce the impact altogether, making this technique less effective than other methods.
  • It’s tedious. Preparing capsules can be a lot of hassle — even with a capsule machine. Swallowing big ass capsules can be a challenge in and of itself, especially when you’re dosing in the 8 to 10-gram range.

2. Chew it, Beavis!

In Thailand, Indonesia, and other places where kratom grows on motherflippin’ trees, the natives get on by chewing the leaves straight off the branch. Pinch a nice-sized ball in a corner of your mouth and let it sit while absorbing the juices in sublingual fashion. I’m sure fresh leaves are better, but some quality dry leaf work wonders, too. BOOM!

Pros

  • It’s awesome! Chewing kratom is incredibly effective with near instant results.
  • It’s the old way. If you wanna feel like a native and bond with the kratom plant an intimate level, this here is your Huckleberry.

Cons

  • It’s almost too good. Chewing kratom is intensely pleasurable and you may feel the urge to chew more than you normally would use.
  • It’s kinda foul . You’re chewing leaves and stems, Beavis. If you think kratom tastes offensive in a tea, just wait til you get a load of this right here.
  • It gives you“kratom mouth”. You’ll spend an extra five minutes mouth washing, teeth brushing and flossing after chomping down on all that leaf like a mindless heifer.

1. Toss and Wash It

Last but not least … toss and wash, another method reserved for the hardest of hardcore kratomites. This method is exactly what it sounds like — open your mouth, throw in a scoop or two of powder, wash it down with a sip of your favorite beverage, then swish swish swish and swallow. Toss and wash is one of those methods you either love or hate — and you may still prefer it while loathing it at the same damn time..

Pros

  • It’s hard to screw up . If this one doesn’t deliver, you’ve either got low-grade kratom, tolerance issues, or this just isn’t the game for you, sport. In terms of impact , it’s a “toss” up between this one and chewing.
  • It’s effective. The results are near instantaneous and pronounced, so you can dramatically reduce the amount required once you find your sweet spot.

Cons

  • It’s nasty. If you have a hard time dealing with the taste of kratom, prepare to suffer. It’s an acquired taste, to say the least.
  • It’s tough to swallow. Toss and wash is an art form of sorts, one that takes time to master. Doesn’t always go smooth, even for the botanical sages.

There is no right or wrong way to use kratom. There are several viable methods, each with its own set of advantages and disadvantages. Everyone has their favorite. Find yours!
